Meet The Team

The Custodians

Meet the custodians of the Dublin Musicology Collective for Graduate Welfare. Together they coordinate events and steer the DMC in a fruitful direction according to the wishes of the collective. Each custodian volunteers their time to see that the needs of the collective are met and to ensure that the DMC is run democratically and with transparency. Further to their individual roles, each custodian represents their fellow graduate students from their respective institution. To get in touch with any custodian, messages addressed for their attention can be sent via our contact form.

My PhD project scrutinises how classical music, as represented by the piano, is portrayed across film, TV, and advertisement. Via an exploration of classical music tropes, I examine the mediatory relationship between the reel and the real to contribute to our understanding of how classical music negotiates its socio-cultural position. This work, heavily influenced by film studies and sociology, is being carried out at the UCD School of Music under the joint supervision of Dr Laura Anderson and Dr Jaime Jones. @anikababel

I am a first-year PhD student currently studying at Dublin City University under the supervision of Dr Róisín Blunnie. My research is focused on the choral and solo vocal works of the British composer, Dame Ethel Smyth. I am particularly interested in the context surrounding these works and will approach this facet of Smyth's oeuvre from an interdisciplinary perspective. My broader academic interests include the role of women in music; the relationship between music and literature; and hermeneutic analysis. @hannah_hannes

I am in my final year of PhD studies at Trinity College Dublin, under the supervision of Dr Andrew Johnstone. My research looks at early modern music through the lens of cultural history, examining how musical culture affects and is affected by its social and political contexts; more specifically, my PhD thesis focuses on seventeenth- and eighteenth-century sacred music in Dublin. @eleanorjmca
