The Dublin Musicology Collective

The Dublin Musicology Collective was founded shortly after the 2020 ICTM/SMI Postgraduate Conference at the University of Limerick. It was at this event that we experienced the perks of stepping away from our desks to celebrate one another's work, exchange tips, and to meet our fellow researchers.    Our ambition is to promote camaraderie and collegiality across the diverse postgraduate musicology community via various events and through the cultivation of an online platform for us to share our research and resources. Much postgraduate work is done in solitude and the DMC aims to offset the isolation that many of us may experience.      The events take the form of a social club

for, though not limited to, graduate students engaged with music and based in the Greater Dublin Area. This includes performers, composers, musicologists (ethno, historical, popular, systematic, etc.),  and all those with an active interest in music studies. Dublin is the epicentre of our events due to the relative ease of access to the city via public transport, along with the plentitude of concerts and seminars, locations to meet up, and the concentration of graduate students based in and around the capital. There is no membership fee associated with the collective and you can subscribe to our mailing list here.     The Collective will be hosting numerous social events in and around Dublin. We believe that such occasions will be of benefit to our wellbeing and thus constructive to our work. By swapping the peaks and troughs of our research we can learn from one another and support each other during our time as postgraduate students. We aim to hold our events at a minimal cost. For the foreseeable future these will take place online. These have taken the form of virtual coffee mornings, workshops, and walks.      The DMC hopes to support and attend each other's performances and presentations. We can promote these occasions on this site and on our social media platforms, run by our promotions officer Hannah Millington.      Events, however, are only one aspect of the DMC. We have collated a selection of links to support your mind, body, and soul throughout your research project. You can find these under the Welfare tab.     The custodians are here to support graduate students and respond to their needs. We welcome and encourage any suggestions, collaborations, and pieces for publication on our site through our contact form     We are determined to maintain an inclusive collective that is welcoming of diversity. Any slander, discrimination, or inappropriate behaviour towards the custodians or the collective will not be tolerated.
